Happy Birthday, She Wrote!

Hi Friends,

I hope everyone is having a good August! It’s always a fun month around my house because my brother’s and my mom’s birthday are this month. In my family we have always made a big deal out of our birthdays. We really try to make that person feel special. We always do an entire birthday week and get a present everyday and decorate with a theme of something that the person loves at the moment. I did pizza decorations for my brother’s birthday at the beginning of the month, Power rangers for my sister’s birthday in March and superheros for my nephew’s birthday party in June. You know I love a good decoration and party! This time it was my mom’s turn. She is the greatest mom in the world, literally puts up with all of us and is still kind and loving.  I wanted to pick a theme that she really loves, so I picked…….. MURDER, SHE WROTE.   Yes the TV Show from the 80’s starring Angela Lansbury. It’s seriously my mom’s and my favorite show! We have seen the entire series (all 12 seasons a 4 movies) more times than we can count. We always know how it will end and we watch it anyways! It’s the best! Angela Lansbury is my spirit animal for sure!

I knew I had to create all of my own decorations because there wasn’t going to be any Murder, She Wrote Decorations we could buy, since the show is from the 80’s. I thought oh well, piece of Cake, and it was! I have seen the show so many time it was easy to come up with decoration ideas. I used my Cricut Maker and Cricut Design Space to create them, obviously! We decorated with a banner, window decals, streamers (store-bought), hanging die cuts from the chandelier, and confetti! I even made Murder, She Wrote T-Shirts for my mom, siblings, and I to wear on her birthday!

In the show Jessica Fletcher (the main character) is Mystery writer who doubles as an amateur sleuth and helps solve a murder wherever she goes. For most of the show she works exclusively on a typewriter so that absolutely had to be incorporated into the decorations. I found a cute tag design and the font that is used for the Murder, She Wrote title in opening credits and put it all together and made a Happy Birthday Banner.

Then I decided to make die cuts to hang from our chandelier instead of a center piece this time.  I usually make a centerpiece out of a flower-pot or mason jar with picks and tissue paper or the scrunched paper filler. But I decided to switch it up this time.  I found/made images that fit the theme and used my Cricut Maker to cut the images out of gold foil paper. I hot glued them to curling ribbon which I pre-curled. To finish off the decorations I made tiny magnifying glass confetti using my Cricut and gold foil paper as well.

I also printed out images from the show and taped them to the windows and strung streams all across the ceiling but of course, I forgot to take pictures of those!

However, as cute as the decorations turned out My favorite thing I made for my moms birthday was the t-shirts for us all to wear on her birthday! They are all Murder, She wrote themed but each one is different. They turned out super cute and my mom was so excited about it! I designed all the images myself and used my Cricut Maker to cut out Iron-on to make them! I got all the shirts at Old Navy. Old Navy is my favorite because they have plain t-shirts for everyone in my family that are the right fabric and aren’t too expensive!

That’s it! I hope you all enjoyed seeing a little glimpse into my mom’s birthday celebration! I think everything turned out super cute and my mom was thrilled and loved it, which is really the most important thing! Until next time…….
