DIY 4th of July Shirts… Part one!

Hi Friends,

4th of July is right around the corner and I am so excited to share these shirts I made with all of you! I decided to make my own 4th of July outfit this year. I started with my flower crown, you can see the tutorial for that here: 4th of July Flower Crown!

I have a few different shirt options… I couldn’t decide! I split them up into two posts. The first shirts I made were iron on pocket shirts.  I found some plain t shirts on clearance at Old Navy and I thought why not put a little patriotic flare on them. I was lucky and found shirts that already had pockets on them but that isn’t necessary. You can use shirts you already have or whatever you can find.

Supplies needed:

  • plain t-shirt/tank top
  • Fabric of choice for pocket
  • Heat n Bond Ultra Hold Iron-on Adhesive
  • scissors
  • iron

Instructions:

Step one:

  • Iron shirt and fabric so you don’t have any wrinkles on your fabric or on your shirt where your Pocket will be.

Step two:

  • Measure the pocket that is already existing on your shirt or measure how big you want to make your pocket. Cut the fabric according to your measurement. See notes if you are creating a pocket from scratch.

Step three:

  • Take the Heat n Bond and cut a square that a little bit bigger than your fabric square. Following the instructions on the Heat n Bond packaging, adhere the Heat n Bond the the back side of your fabric.

Step four:

  • Trim the extra adhesive on the edges of the pocket. Carefully iron on the fabric to on top of the pocket. Make sure your pocket is completely cooled before touching or moving your shirt!

Notes: If creating a pocket from scratch you will want to make your pocket a bit bigger. Instead of covering the entire back side of the pocket with Heat n Bond you will want to cut slim strips of the adhesive and only put it on the two sides and bottom edge of your new pocket. Or you can also sew the pocket on if you want!

That’s it! You’re done with your super easy Pocket shirt! Its so cute and a great way to make something patriotic to wear for the fourth of July. Of course you can make it with any fabric you love, You can use Disney fabric and make the family matching shirts for a Disney Vacation or just some cute fabric for every day wear. Until next time….
